The City of Cumberland’s Community Development Department is pleased to introduce two grant programs designed in support of our Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative to reduce blight. Both programs are aimed at helping to revitalize properties within our community.
The Home Rehabilitation Grant Program is intended for the improvement of a property in the city limits of Cumberland that is vacant and uninhabitable in its current condition. The property must be assessed under $100,000. Applicants will be eligible for a 50% matching grant, up to a maximum of $25,000 upon the completion of the project. There are no income guidelines associated with this grant, but certain conditions will apply. The rehabilitation project must be completed within one year of grant award.
The Roof Replacement Program is designed for the replacement of deteriorating roofs of single-family homes within the Sustainable Communities Designated Area (viewable at https://portal.dhcd.state.md.us/GIS/revitalize/index.html). Priority for this funding will be given to the disabled, elderly and veterans. A total of $50,000 is available for this grant program with each applicant eligible for an amount between $5,000 and $10,000. Income guidelines will apply for this grant. Roof replacements must take place within six months of grant award.
Application packets for both grant programs can be obtained in person from the Community Development Department (lower level of City Hall), 57 N. Liberty Street, by calling 301-759-6442 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
