With the upcoming snow prediction, we just wanted to remind everyone of City Code, Sec. 22-9. regarding the removal of snow from sidewalks.
-Within twenty-four (24) hours after the fall of any snow, the occupants of houses or dwellings on every public street or public way or the owners or agents having charge of vacant houses or dwellings and unimproved lots and persons having charge of public buildings shall clear away such snow or cause it to be cleared away from the sidewalks or footways in front of such buildings or unimproved lots, in such manner as to make clear at least one-half the width of such sidewalk or footway, except as otherwise provided in this section.
-In the commercial areas of the city, the owners, occupants or agents who have charge of any building or unimproved lots shall clear away such snow, or cause it to be cleared away, within six (6) hours after the fall of any snow. The requirements of this subsection shall apply to those areas of the city which fall within the boundaries of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad right-of-way, Market Street, Winston Street and the Western Maryland Railway Company right-of-way. They shall also apply on Virginia Avenue for its entire length from Oldtown Road to the Western Maryland Railway.
-In clearing snow from such sidewalks or footways, it shall be unlawful to pile or heap such snow in the gutters or those portions of the public streets or public ways designated for vehicular traffic.
