The City of Cumberland is located in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland. Cumberland is 130 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 140 miles west of Baltimore, Maryland, and 140 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.

Staffing

The Cumberland Fire Department is a career department currently with 51 members consisting of:

  • 1 fire chief
  • 1 administrative officer
  • 1 fire marshal
  • 3 battalion chiefs
  • 3 captains
  • 6 lieutenants
  • 12 equipment operators
  • 24 firefighters

Cross-Training

Personnel are cross-trained for both fire suppression and emergency medical services. All members are trained to the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) level. The Cumberland Fire Department is staffed with 23 Advanced Life Support providers, i.e., paramedics or cardiac rescue technicians.


Equipment & Locations

The Cumberland Fire Department operates from 3 fire stations, 4 pumpers, 1 aerial tower, 1 rescue truck, 1 command unit and 5 advanced life support ambulances.


Fire Prevention Bureau

The Fire Prevention Bureau provides fire investigations, fire inspections, code enforcement, plan reviews, and public education.


Training Division

The Training Division works in cooperation with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and is a member of the Maryland Council of Fire and Rescue Academies.
